Leff Moore

Leff Moore, Executive Director of West Virginia MHA

He urged the audience to be grateful for their lives, their families, and their friends. He spoke about West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, who is concerned that our schools are not teaching history anymore. He quoted the Senator, "Our kids don't know the Constitution or what the original thirteen colonies were. Unless, as a nation, we preserve our heritage, the nation will decline."

He went on to explain why it is important to protect and preserve the history and heritage of the RV industry. "Every successful member in the RV/MH Hall of Fame prepared for their journey. They succeeded through preparation, experience and knowledge. We have all benefited from their efforts," said Mr. Moore

Leff went on to say, "Preparation is pretty important no matter what you're going to do," and told the story about a valuable lesson learned from his dad. "We had the two original weed eaters where I grew up, me and my brother" he said. "Wanting a special favor from dad, the boys agreed to a contest to cut the weeds at the front of the house. Leff and his brother would cut one side and their father would cut the other side. Whoever finished first, would decide the outcome of their request.

The boys grabbed the sickles and ran down to the front fence and started whipping away at a frantic pace. They were confused when their father went to the front porch, sat down, grabbed the sickle and slowly and gently whet the instrument, honing it to a razor sharp edge. While dad was doing this, the boys were whipping up a storm down in the front yard.

Their father finished his honing, walked down to his side of the fence, and simply walked along at a steady pace as each weed fell under the sharpened blade of his finely whetted sickle. Leff and his brother were dripping in sweat and stunned to look up and see their father all finished with his side of the fence, and not a drop of sweat on his brow.
