Sun-Lite 250RBH
Dealer Name
RV Trading Post

Distance to Dealer — Local (within 100 miles)

Purchased the Sun-lite 250RBH in January 99. This is our first trailer and first try at camping. We have had it out twice and have only two problems. One of the drains on the double sink leaks and the hole for the drain for the water tank is about an inch from where it should be. This crimps the hose and makes draining the water tank a several hour job. Other than those two problems everything seems to work just fine. It tows very well behind a V-8 Explorer using a Hensley hitch. We did experience some buffeting from wind but absolutely no effects from passing trucks or from bumpy roads. Fit and finish is very good especially for an Ultralite. I would recommend the Sun-Lite to others.

I bought a new Aerolite 21 RBH in February ‘99. Whereas I appreciate the good design and lightweight, the quality and durability are in question. On my first trip, the shower leaked. I fixed it myself with some caulk. The windows leak under exceptionally hard rain. I accept that as part of a trailer. However, after a rather bumpy trip in I-90 in S.D., the black water tank fell off. I pulled into a rest stop and someone alerted me that I was dragging something. The tank had been emptied. It just fell off on its own. In the process of dragging, it damaged the main drain. The gray water tank was leaking at the gate valve.

Whereas this was a rather precarious mess given that we normally stay a National and State parks with few facilities, the reply of the nearest Aerolite dealer was disappointing. He could get another tank in 3-4 working days, but it would be a charge item. It turns out that the warranty work must either be done at the original dealer or at the factory. So much for protection while on the road. Thus I had to improvise and spend a $100 on a portable tank and go through quite a bit more hassle.

I am to take the trailer to the dealer this week now that I am back from my trip.

Fleetwood Mallard 27X
Dealer Name
Four Seasons RV
Hagerstown, Maryland
Distance to Dealer — Local (within 100 miles)

After comparing many brands of travel trailers for construction and cost, we ordered a Mallard 27X in April of this year. We took delivery in May. This was a move up for us from our 18 ft Sunline. With the kids getting bigger, we needed more space, but did not want to get too big due to towing restrictions. We have found the Mallard 27X to be a great compromise. It provides the space we need, (bunks, queen bed, and a sofa bed, full galley), without adding too much towing weight.

We found the workmanship to be good with no leaking or other defects. Some white paint did rub off the shower wall when it was cleaned, (maybe too much elbow grease). We have had the unit out on three trips to date and actually find it tows better than our old Sunline.

In selecting the Mallard, we also compared it against other Fleetwood brands which offer the same floor plan, (Prowler, & Wilderness), and found while the Mallard is the “entry level” brand, the Mallard suited our needs just fine, and saved over one thousand dollars in purchase price. The only feature we missed was the second side window in the front bedroom area of the trailer, which is offered in the other lines. This aids in ventilation. We had our dealer add this afterward. Even with the additional cost of installation of the window, we still saved several hundred dollars over the Prowler or Wilderness units.

In closing, we are very satisfied with our unit and would recommend Mallard to anyone considering the purchase of such a unit. Our dealer, Four Seasons RV has been very easy to deal with.

Northwood Nash 21C
Dealer Name
Pan Pacific RV

Distance to Dealer — Local (within 100 miles)

After a lifetime of sleeping on the ground we came to the conclusion that traveling with our own bathroom was the way to go. Went to a big show to look at pickup slide-in campers, stopped to rest in a Nash 21C, and we were very impressed. Shopped many other units in this size range and kept coming back to the Nash. Purchased our trailer in Dec. from Pan Pacific and were very happy with the sales dept. Took delivery and drove home in the dark. The service dept. failed to properly adjust the trailer brake control, so we smoked and squealed our way home in complete terror. Read the directions the next day and got it set up ok. Since that time we have figured out how the heater bypass works also. Again service was no help. Pan Pacific seems to have two heads and the service dept. is the ugly sister. We love the trailer, it travels well, handles the weather (extra insulation and storm windows) and is very comfortable. Best layout we have seen, very open with big windows. and a great bed. Hope to do back country camping so the shock absorbers will come in handy. Now we are shopping for a solar electrical system. We would send anyone Nash’s way but would have reservations about sending any beginners to Pan Pacific.

We bought this new “pop out” travel trailer June 30, 1999. Model 2000. We’ve only had time to have it out once, and that was over the July 4 “HOT” weekend. We went to a local campsite for a shakedown trip. Except for a few loose screws, everything worked great!! The pop out queen and full bed is perfect for my husband and I and our two dogs!! We were really impressed with the TV amplifier that gave us a perfect picture on our 13” TV. The combo shower/toilet is kind of small,  but at least it has one. The microwave worked great, but most of all the air conditioner cooled the trailer even though is was 95 and humid as heck.  I’m a little worried about the sway that happened when we pulled it from the dealership. But we’re going to get a sway bar and hopefully that will prevent it. We haul this with a 94 GMC Safari and it seemed to haul just fine, (except for the sway). Tom Raper’s people were all just great and the service tech that “walked us through” everything was very knowledgeable and helpful for us first timers. We’re planning to go to thru the Rockies in a bit, so I’ll follow up after we get all kinds of weather and road conditions.

Jayco Designer 3310 (1999)
Dealer Name
Terrell Camping Center
Terrell, NC
Distance to Dealer — Local (within 100 miles)

This is our first camper. We purchased a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel, Short Bed, 4:10 gear ratio. We probably should have purchased a long bed truck to tow the fifth wheel, but with the Reese 14k sliding hitch, have not run into any problems yet. The camper has been fabulous. Have taken 4 weekend trips, 1 weeklong trip to Outer Banks, and a 16-day trip to Canada (this was the true test). The trip to Canada was 3800 miles, and the truck and camper did great!! No problems with dishes moving around or any interior problems. The only problem we encountered was with the Power Converter, but I understand this has been a manufacturing problem. Terrell replaced this part with no questions asked. I would highly recommend the Jayco Designer series and Terrell Camping Center to anyone in this area that is in the market for a Jayco product. The staff there is top notch!!!!

National RV SeaBreeze 2033

If you are considering a quality up scale 5th wheel the Sea-Breeze is an excellent choice. Just got mine in may and so far I am really pleased. This is my third 5th wheel, 1st a Nu-wa (never Again) 2nd a 1987 Carri-Lite which I owned for 12 years with not a problem, great unit. I am happy with overall fit and finish and the reputation of National RV has been very positive overall. 100 gal fresh water. 200gal gray and black, slide out awnings standard, Corian counter tops, gel coat fiberglass, oak cabinets, oak floor, storage in the slide outs (Very Rare). Not a first time RV because of cost, but one of higher quality, and Yes quality most of the time does cost more.

Jayco Eagle 313RKS
Dealer Name
Powder River RV
Ft. Collins, CO
Distance to Dealer — Regional (100-500 miles)

Purchased this 1999 model new in February, and have used it perhaps 6 times.  It has many upgrades, and we really like the space available when the large  slide is out. It pulls great even here in the Colorado mountains with a GMC  454 Vortec, getting 7+ mpg and better in the flat country. Had a few minor  problems, resolved easily. I would suggest you have your dealer raise the  unit to the lowest hole Jayco provides at the spring shackles before taking  delivery. The shocks will then need bushings or spacers before they can be  reinstalled. This unit rides smoothly. No broken dishes or even a hint of  problems that way. I am currently experiencing a problem with the Thetford  toilet. It seems that after flushing, the flush valve forms an airtight seal  (as it should), which leads to a partial vacuum that all but slows down  drainage to the holding tank. Has anyone else had this problem, and how was  it fixed?
