Stoner Gets Mileage from Segway™ Scooter

Car Care Company Applauds, Embraces Innovative Technology

Technological innovation is at the heart of Stoner Inc.’s car care product line. It’s also what drives the Segway Human Transporter, a personal trans- RVers Become Segway™ Dealers Dick and Janice Burke portation device that gets people out of their cars and where they want to go. Stoner, the proud owner of a Segway, has found the people-mover is not only practical, but is a source of fascination for the public.

“We initially saw some very interesting parallels between Stoner and Segway in terms of innovation,” says Stoner general manager Rob Marchalonis. Stoner has used the self-balancing, computerized Segway primarily for promotional purposes, including at trade shows, car shows and business meetings. “We’ve also enjoyed sharing it with high school technology classes and other student groups that enjoy a demonstration of this new and rarely seen technology.” The device fits into the back of an SUV and transports its standing rider about three times faster than most people walk. Its makers bill it as an environmentally friendly, less costly alternative to the gas guzzling automobile.

Adds Marchalonis: “Our company’s mission is to help our customers save time, increase productivity and improve the quality of their work.” And like Segway, Stoner likes to incorporate technology in its business. Stoner personnel who have used the device have found it safe and reliable. “It’s surprisingly easy to use,” according to Marchalonis. “You literally step on it and go in a span of 30 seconds.

He admires the makers of Segway, a New Hampshire based business, for their out-of-the-box thinking. “We’ve also gone beyond what’s expected in the development and marketing of products including Invisible Glass, a product that delivers crystal-clear windshields, and Tarminator, a revolutionary way to remove difficult road grime from automobiles. Stoner’s achievements were recognized last year when the company was one of only seven in the U.S. to receive the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
