New Structural Hybrid Urethane Can Replace Wood, Other Boardstock & Polyester FRP

Future Coatings announces Ultacore™, it's new spray applied structural foam. The unsaturated polyester/polyurethane hybrid provides stiffness and hardness with fast reaction time and integral toughness, producing parts with lower weight and long term durability.

The manufacturer claims the new spray applied structural foam provides higher stiffness, compression and shear strength than PUF (polyurethane foam) and other PVC core materials. While at the same time, it competes head-to-head against polyester FRP as a lightweight structural material for a "sandwich" composite. Plus, the Ultracore is less labor intensive than boardstock or fiberglass products.

Ultracore is recommended by Futura to replace wood and polyester FRP in such applications as RV panels, hulls for recreational craft and architectural parts. This product will also replace the wood and foam core boardstock used in the boat building industry. Since Ultracore is applied seamless print through patterns of wood or fiberglass is never a problem. According to Futura, the material also provides thermoplastic support and can act as insulation in spas and acrylic tubs.

It is available in 10, 20 and 30 lb. densities and in fire retardant versions.

Futura is a manufacturer of high performance polyurethane coatings, elastomers and structural resins used in a variety of industries. For more information, contact:
