1997 Blue Bird Wanderlodge

The Motorcoach Division of the Blue Bird Corporation has introduced its 1997 Wanderlodge line, which includes updated versions of the popular 41-foot and 43-foot models. This year's vehicles include a variety of new and improved amenities, as well as significant design enhancements.

New Features And Amenities

One of the most important enhancements made to this year's Wanderlodge models is the lower engine deck in the rear of the vehicle. By redesigning the chassis frame rails and consequently lowering the engine compartment, Blue Bird engineers improved living space within the vehicle. Thus, both of the 1997 Wanderlodge models will feature a spacious walk-in rear closet, which includes custom-made drawer cabinetry, shelving, and a generous amount of hanging space. As for the engine itself, this year's Wanderlodges will utilize a Series 60 Detroit Diesel engine. And for the first time, both vehicles will include the more powerful 500-hp configuration, giving both models maximum power and performance. Other new features on the 1997 43' Wanderlodge includes a liftable rear tag axle, which significantly improves the vehicle's turning radius, as well as a round shower stall.

Luxury Interior Features

As with past Wanderlodges, Blue Bird designers have stressed luxury in the interior design and amenities. Once again, the company's staff of interior design experts will help to customize vehicles to the exact specifications of prospective owners. To this end, 1997 models offer a number of floor plan options, as well as a wide variety of material and pattern choices. Ultra leather seating, custom inlaid carpeting, and designer window treatments further enhance the vehicle's high-quality aesthetic environment. The kitchen area includes a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, waterfall-edged laminate counter tops and custom-crated wood cabinetry. The bathroom features fully-tiled surfaces and premium fixtures. Two 20-inch remote-control color televisions and a state-of-the-art audio system are also standard aboard both Wander-lodges.

Engineering and Construction Features

In addition to the lower engine deck and improved horsepower capability, the 1997 Wander-lodges will continue to feature Blue Bird's all-galvanized steel construction technique, which provides longer vehicle life and exceptional quality. The vehicle's chassis integrates the Allison World transmission and a road-tested design with proven durability. An ergonomic driver's area permits easy access and clear identification of all important vehicle functions, while optimal environmental comfort is provided by an HVAC automotive dash heat and air system. The new models also include an Aqua Hot diesel-fired hot water heat system with three zones and heat for the plumbing bay.
