Humming a Happy Tune in Harrisburg

by Bob Zagami, Editor

When most people in the country are celebrating the end of summer with the passing of the Labor Day holiday weekend, the Northeast continues the festivities with the largest RV show in the country in Harrisburg, PA.

The diminutive little lady, Becky Lenington, PRVCA Executive Vice-President, has slowly, steadily, and successfully grown the Harrisburg extravaganza into one of the most respected trade and consumer shows in our industry. Although sometimes shy and unwilling to take credit for such a feat, there is no doubt in the minds of those who work with Becky, give her the kudos for making the 35th Annual Pennsylvania RV & Camping Show such a delightful event for everybody.

The show, held at the newly expanded State Farm Complex in Harrisburg, has become an annual trek for thousands of serious RVers up and down the East Coast of the country, with many taking advantage of the special five dollar parking fee for a paved lot just minutes away from the complex, and that includes free shuttle service back and forth each day!

Bob Tiffin, president of Tiffin Motor Homes, said, "We’ve been coming here for thirty years and just love this show. It’s a wonderful show for us and the public. They do a great job every year. This year we picked up a few new dealers to improve our coverage in the Northeast."

Lenington noted, "We sold 770,377 square feet of exhibit space and we will have over 30,000 people come through the gates before it’s all over. We are just thrilled with the new facility and the great buildings that allow us to showcase even more product and make it easier for consumers to get around.

We still have a large outdoor display area and several of our exhibitors wanted to stay outside this year, even though we had some impressive new buildings inside. There’s a special feeling about being outside here and they are willing to take their chances with the weather to have that space.

We made some changes outside this year, mostly with the Park Model trailer village. We moved it in closer to the building, just outside one of the new exhibit halls, and dressed it up with a white perimeter fence and flowers. It is getting a lot of attention and the exhibitors seem very happy with the changes. I know we have a lot of people looking at those wonderful park models everyday."
