National RV Improves on Full-Wall Slideouts for 2008 Motorhomes

The RV industry has come a long way since the early days of self-renovated vans and home-made trailers. These days, you can get a fully-equipped vehicle to drive or tow pretty much anywhere you like. In fact, the number of people who have made an RV their full-time home on wheels has never been higher.

So how do you improve on a way of life that's already beloved by millions of people? Just ask the folks at National RV.

National RV's full-wall slideout adds over 77 square feet to its 2008 Pacifica 40E motorhome, and well over 400 total square feet when all slide rooms are fully extended. Thanks to some engineering ingenuity at NRV, this innovation comes with some embellishments and improvements that make it even better than when the technology first came on the scene about three years ago, though even today only a handful of manufacturers offer them.

The expansive open space resultant of a full-wall slide is something RVers are still getting used to; some people have shied away from it, preferring separated living areas. National RV responded to that concern by adding two sets of pocket doors, which separate the bath, or the bedroom and bath, from the main living area.

Opening up almost the entire sidewall for this size of a slideout poses some engineering challenges. To maintain the structural integrity of the mainframe, the Pacifica 40E has reinforced steel roof trusses added laterally to the roof structure, as well as interior walls strengthened with aluminum framing.

Another thing that's unique about the company's 28-foot electric slideout is that it's found on the curb side of the RV, with two additional streetside slideouts.

While the technology for full-wall slides isn't exactly new, its progression allows for manufacturers to do new things with the concept, and it's finding favor with more and more RVers.
