Many of us grew up listening to the
tall tales of the legendary Paul Bunyan,
giant lumberjack and folk hero, whose
tales were told in the bunkhouses of
ordinary logging camps, by ordinary
working men, while gathered around the
glowing woodstoves on cold winter
evenings.
Many people in the RV industry grew
up listening to the real life exploits of
Bob and Ron Lee, visionaries who set
out to build the World’s Finest
Motorcoaches, whose tales were told
outside under the stars and clear blue
skies by ordinary men and women
around the glow of a campfire at the
local campground or RV resort.
Few people, and fewer companies,
ever reach legendary status among their
peers and customers, but Bob Lee did.
And Country Coach did.
The past few years were not kind to
one of the industry’s premier builders of
high-end luxury motorhomes, but the
flames of success are being fueled once
again by a man personally groomed by
Bob Lee to take over as president … and
he did just that earlier this year … and
his name is Jay Howard.
Howard met Lee in 1997 when he
was the president of Safari and they
were both on a vendor sponsored fishing
trip. During the four day fishing vacation,
Howard learned that Bob Lee lived
just four blocks away from him in
Junction City, Oregon. This was the
start of a relationship that continued to
grow, resulting in Lee’s hiring him on
several consultancy assignments and
then as Executive Vice President of
Country Coach to take over as president
when Lee was appointed CEO.
