Innovative exterior rearview mirrors with built-in turn signals featuring high intensity LED lamps that create a chevron-style turn signal within the mirror have been introduced by MITO Corp. When the driver activates a turn signal, a flashing chevron appears in the corresponding side mirror to alert drivers in blind spots. Signal Mirrors also flash warning signals in both mirrors when hazard flashers are used. Electronic sensors automatically adjust signal intensity so the chevron display is bright during the day and dim at night. The LED lamps used in Signal Mirrors illuminate faster than conventional tail lights, providing blind spot drivers an improved reaction distance of 17' at 65 mph - time enough to prevent an accident. Auxiliary lights on towed trailers or boats are generally placed lower than tail lamps and are not easily seen by other drivers. The bright LED read-out from a Signal Mirror clearly indicates the intentions of the tow vehicle driver. Signal Mirrors may be installed only on vehicles previously equipped with power activated mirrors, and takes about an hour. On most vehicles only the glass portion of the mirror assembly is replaced and the external housing remains entirely intact; the exception is all CK Series vehicles by Chevrolet.
