Featherlite, Inc.
www.featherliteinc.com
For 2001, Featherlite once again continues its strong
involvement in motorsports as the "Official Trailer and Official Luxury Motor Coach
of NASCAR."
Information provided by John Hall, director of corporate
communications at Featherlite, notes that Featherlite built its first racecar transporter
in 1992 for Winston Cup team owner Richard Childress and seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup
champion, Dale Earnhardt. Building on the success of the Earnhardt transporter,
Featherlite quickly established itself as the leader in innovative specialty trailer
designs by building race car transporters, vending trailers, hospitality trailers for top
NASCAR teams and drivers.
Over 80% of the teams on the NASCAR Winston Cup racing
series are hooked up to Featherlite racecar transporters, including eight of the top ten
drivers in the final Winston Cup standings at the end of the 2000 season. The list
includes Dale Earnhardt, Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin.
Featherlite renewed its sponsorship agreement with
NAS-CAR in 2001 and Featherlite trailers, Featherlite Vantare® and Featherlite
Vogue® luxury coaches will be on display in the garage area at all NASCAR
Winston Cup events during the 2001 racing season.
Conrad Clement, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of Featherlite recently said: "Featherlite has enjoyed steady growth since we
became involved with NASCAR sponsorship programs. Our racecar transporters, vending
trailers, car trailers, and luxury coaches are an important part of our business. As a
result, we value our marketing partnership with NASCAR and look forward to continuing our
relationship far into the future."
Featherlite is the official sponsor at several race
venues throughout the year. Featherlite is the "Official Trailer" of Speedway
Motorsports, Inc., which owns Lowes Motor Speedway (NC), Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA),
Bristol Motor Speedway (TN), Texas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway (NV) and Sears
Point Race Way (CA.)
Through the Featherlite VIP Club, the company sponsors
seven rallies at Winston Cup events for coach owners, regardless of brand affiliation.
Activities include viewing qualifying, dinners, tours of the garage and pit areas, access
to luxury suites, and opportunities to meet drivers. Personal appearances tentatively
scheduled for the 2001 rallies include Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Bobby
Labonte, Bobby Hamilton and Dale Earnhardt.
Winston Cup team owner Richard Childress and driver Dale
Earnhardt have appeared in videos promoting Featherlite trailers. Jeff Gordon, who owns
several trailers, was also featured in a 30-second commercial for Featherlite car
trailers.
Over two-dozen Winston Cup drivers and team owners own
Featherlite luxury motorcoaches. They include the 2000 Winston Cup champion, Bobby
Labonte, along with his brother Terry Labonte, Ken Schrader, Jeff Burton, Richard Petty
and Richard Childress.
The company showcased its all-new Featherlite Vogue
6000LX luxury coach at the final Winston Cup race of the season at the Atlanta Motor
Speedway, catching the fancy of team owners and drivers who rely on coaches for their
living quarters while at the track. The 6000LX will be available with four slide outs that
create a dramatically large living area. Two come standard with the third and fourth being
optional.
Clement said, "The 6000LX is the industry's first
composite luxury motor coach. The exterior is aerodynamically designed and is constructed
of composite panels similar to those used in manufacturing some of the finest yachts in
the world."
Featherlite's activity extends well beyond the Winston
Cup tour. In 1994 they became the title sponsor of the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour
and in 1995 became the title sponsor of the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour. They are
also a corporate sponsor of the NASCAR Craftsman SuperTruck Series and is a sponsor of the
NASCAR Winston Racing Series' year-end awards program.
Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc.
Fleetwood hit the jackpot in 1997 when they signed a
sponsorship contract with Dale Jarrett. In 1999, Jarrett won his first Winston Cup
championship. He finished out of the top ten only five times in 34 events and won four
races during the year.
They came close again in 2000 when Jarrett, in the
Ford/Quality Care/Fleetwood Taurus finished fourth in the final Winston Cup Standings and
teammate Rick Rudd in the Texaco/Fleetwood Taurus finished right behind him in fifth
place.
Dale's father Ned was a Winston Cup champion in 1961 and
1965.
Jarrett changes his major sponsorship to UPS this year
and Fleetwood logos will again be on the side of the #88 that is surely going to contend
for the championship this year.
Fleetwood will also have signage on the #28 Texaco car
driven by Ricky Rudd, a veteran Winston Cup driver that could challenge for the title in
2001.
Amy Harrison, Fleetwood's marketing services coordinator,
motorsports and PR, walked us through the extensive Fleetwood RV motorsports web site
noted above.
Fleetwood, a Fortune 500 company and the world's largest
RV manufacturer, is a longtime supporter of NASCAR, promoting the RV lifestyle and
increasing their visibility among the 90-million viewers and hundreds of thousands of
RVers who attend Winston Cup races each year.
The entire Jarrett family (Ned, Dale and Jason) have made
personal appearances in the Fleetwood display area at the RVIA Louisville show and
national dealer meetings. Motorsports enthusiasts have great respect for the Jarrett
family, and this family image is one that is synonymous with RVers and maximized by
Fleetwood throughout the year.
Fleetwood provides Dale Jarrett with a top-of-the-line
American Heritage to use as their home on wheels during race weekends at the track.
Fleetwood is the "Official Recreational
Vehicle" sponsor for all of the International Speedway Corporation tracks, including:
Talladega Superspeedway (AL), Daytona International Speedway (FL), Phoenix International
Raceway (AZ), Darlington Raceway (SC), California Speedway, Richmond International
Speedway (VA), Michigan International Speedway, Watkins Glen International Speedway (NY),
and the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida.
At these tracks, Fleetwood will provide free service
during race weekends by authorized RV service technicians. This ongoing commitment to its
customers provides services from minor repairs to cabinet doors and awnings.
Fleetwood points out on their web site the many reasons
why they have chosen to be associated with NASCAR:
NASCAR attendance increased from 3.4 million in 1991 to
6.1 million in 1997. Many tracks continue to add new seating each year, and those seats
are quickly filled with waiting racing enthusiasts.
Brand loyalty is one of the main reasons anybody gets
involved with NASCAR, it is unmatched by any other type of sporting audience.
Approximately half of all NASCAR fans indicated that they had a "higher trust"
in products associated with NASCAR. 76% of NASCAR fans said they are more likely to
purchase a sponsor's product over a non-sponsor's product. Independent Fleetwood surveys
indicate that nearly 6% of its buyers were influenced by the company's associations with
NASCAR.
A popular part of the racing lifestyle is to follow the
races in a motorhome, particularly in the Southeast, where several racetracks are in close
proximity to each other. Racetrack facilities are being upgraded to create "family
areas" and playgrounds to make the track even more appealing for RVers who want to
enjoy the race and a quality family vacation weekend. It is not unusual to see upwards of
10,000 RVs at a Winston Cup race event. continued
