"We have top quality brand names and a real talented group of electronics people, and that combination really made it click. In fact, Leisure Time was named by Pioneer as their national distributor of the year for 1998. In 1999, Leisure Time was named regional distributor of the year for the western U.S.

"It's the same with fabric. People we have in the fabric business are top notch."

On a national basis Leisure Time currently represents BRD Supply, Elixir Industries, Hopkins Mfg. Co., Dayco Swan, Speedway, JVC, ASA Electronics, Guilford Mills, Pro Eagle fifthwheel hitches, CGPC America, and Pioneer Electronics for the aftermarket.

In regional markets Leisure Time represents Automatic Equipment, Firestone Industrial, Prime Products, Phoenix Products, Monogram Industries, Thin-Lite Corp, and Protect-All.

In addition to the afore mentioned divisions, Leisure Time also manufactures its own line of low-cost RV convenience accessories. That business started when Dean Shirley joined Leisure Time.

Janice said, "He's a very hands on person that relates extremely well to the RV guys. He's been with RV's his whole life. He started out at Atlantic Mobile Supply in Greensboro for 15 years and then was with Camco for 10 years."

Gary said, "Dean brought along a rare skill he loves developing products. He developed a lot of them over the years for Camco -- I mean a lot of them. He has this unique ability to talk to the RV consumer and hears what the RVer is saying about what he needs or wants and then develop a product that meets that need.

"And these aren't knock-offs; these are new products.

"Dean's developed about 30 some-odd products in the four or five years since he joined Leisure Time. We are going to start really focusing on this part of the business because weve seen how, in a very short time, it has become an important part of our business. There's a lot of room for more growth in this area."

When you look at Leisure Time Marketing today, you see a vibrant company that after more than 24 years is still growing and expanding it's horizons. And during it's entire history the man guiding the enterprise has been and remains Gary Chancy.

So how did a Kansas boy end up in California and owner of a highly successful sales and distribution company?

Gary said, "While I was growing up one of my life's main objectives was to get out of Kansas. My father was in the insurance business and would win trips. He took me along on a couple of trips he won to California and Florida, and after seeing these places, I said, 'Wow! There is more to life than Kansas.'

"When I got out of school in Kansas I didn't know what I wanted to do so I ended up going to this big career management and development program at the Hartford Insurance Group in Connecticut. To me this was a really incredible training program because I was competing against all these Ivy League guys. "

After the training Chancy was assigned to the mass merchandising department. Chancy continued, "At that time this department had three people and only one account -- IBM in San Jose. So I was moving to California."

But he didn't make it. While visiting relatives during the move to San Jose he stopped in Wichita, KS and during this visit he met Chuck Henry and the Coleman Company. continued
