When it absolutely, positively, has to work! by Bob Zagami Editor There are many things that work flawlessly in an RV, but one in particular must absolutely, positively do its job each and every time it is activated. It is the gas ignition control found in several products connected to the propane gas system.

Out of sight, out of mind, it simply does its job every time the propane powered furnace or water heater is called into action. In fact, gas ignition controls work so well, that most consumers have no idea what company is behind such an incredible record of performance, quality engineering and manufacturing perfection that contributes to a pleasant and safe RV experience.

Fenwal Controls (a Kidde Company), located in Ashland, Massachusetts, prides itself on a manufacturing environment designed to accept nothing less than perfection. The controls they provide to OEM’s are a key component that ultimately determines a consumer’s attitude toward the RV lifestyle that they want to enjoy so much.

Gerry Harting, Director of Sales & Marketing, said, “We are transparent, invisible and totally reliable, but nobody knows we are there. The gas ignition control is the most critical safety component in a gas fired RV appliance. It has to identify the safe and proper conditions for lighting, turn on the gas valve and light the flame, make sure it lights, monitor the flame, and immediately shut off the gas valve if any unsafe or fault condition occurs, such as the flame going out. The process takes place in a matter of seconds. Time after time, after time, ad infinitum.”
