Freedom, Flexibility, Control and Value Highlight Optimism at Outlook 2002 Breakfast

By Bob Zagami, Associate Editor

Walt Bennett said it all in his opening comments as he opened the Outlook 2002 breakfast meeting when he said, "We have the lifestyle sought by today's consumer." This set the tone for many of the speeches that followed as the theme of freedom, flexibility, control and value was interwoven through each presentation and video clip.

Walt Bennett, chairman of the RVIA board, and Sr. vice president of Thor Industries, Inc.: "We have the lifestyle sought by today's consumer."

As the industry builds upon the success of the Go RVing campaign, started six years ago, Bennett said, "We have raised the bar on consumer satisfaction."

Dave Humphreys urged all parties to continue the partnership that is allowing the industry to outperform the economy. Manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and campgrounds form a unique group of industries that can continue to drive success and grow during difficult times.

The terrorist attacks on the United States have caused many people, especially the American family, to reevaluate their priorities at work and at home. The realization that we are vulnerable in our homeland, has heightened interest in alternative travel options and increased the awareness of the RV lifestyle and all it has to offer.

Humphrey's said, "People want to get away from pressure and are worried that they are not spending enough time with their children. They want to be active and they want quality time with their family and friends. People want a simpler life."
