   John K. Hanson
A Motor Home for
Every Man

In 1957, a small town Iowa funeral director who also owned a furniture store and an Oldsmobile/ International Harvester dealership was asked to chair his community’s local development commission to attempt to bring new businesses to fill vacant manufacturing buildings in the northern Iowa community. The commission determined to attempt to recruit a company in the rapidly growing RV industry to fill the available manufacturing space.

The beginning of Winnebago Industries and the legacy of John K. Hanson are the results of the commission’s attempt.
