Underneath, out the side, and now on top;

SkyDeck pushes space availability upward

First it was the basement storage concept developed by John Crean, then came the push outward with Mahlon Miller's first slide-out, and now the thirst for more useable space in travel trailers and motorhomes is being answered by Frank Messano of SkyDeck Industries.

A patented rooftop SkyDeck is pushing space availability upward, offering new-found freedom and enjoyment high above street level.

The SkyDeck made an early appearance this year at the Oklahoma FMCA Convention with a diesel coach test marketed by MHC. When MHC ceased operations, SkyDeck sought a new dancing partner.

Moving on to their next opportunity, SkyDeck has recently signed an exclusive agreement with Thor America. The company will manufacture a patented fifth-wheel and travel trailer line that was introduced at the Louisville show.

Basement models allowed RVers the extra storage space they had been craving for years.

Slide-outs brought expanded living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms and have been one of the most popular options in the RV industry for years.

The SkyDeck is a logical extension of the RVers search for more space and more exciting ways to use their travel trailers and motorhomes. This could be the next generation idea and may enjoy a comparable success story when it is finally discovered by consumers.

The idea is simple, an open-air deck, complete with lounge seating, wet bars, and built-in barbecues. The SkyDeck can add up to 40% more entertainment space than comparable length units.

If possible, Thor will establish exclusive statewide territories and provide dealers with a real attention-getter that will draw customers into their dealerships. Thor's expectations are that the SkyDeck rooftop deck towables and motorized units are the next generation of RV's, for the next generation of RVers.

The SkyDeck looks like something you would find on a luxury water craft and sends out a screaming invitation to relax and enjoy life with your family and friends. It will be interesting to see if the concept takes off now that SkyDeck has hitched its fate with the largest manufacturer of travel trailers in the RV industry.
