28th Annual Pennsylvania RV & Camping Show Preview On Target with Harrisburg
PRVCA promises a wide range of activities at this year's show. PRVCA show chairman, Larry Mellott of Mellott Brothers Trailer Sales, said, "We chose to focus on the diversity of the industry and because of that this year's event will have more to offer campground/resort owners then ever before while continuing the tradition of offering unique and valuable industry data." PRVCA plans to attract more campground/resort owners with the return of last year's Campground Boulevard, an area where suppliers marketing campground and RV resort owners display their products and services, as well as Park Trailer Drive, home of the nation's leading park trailer manufacturers. The show will begin on Monday, September 9th, with PRVCA's Annual Merchandising Seminar with guest speaker and syndicated author Don Taylor. This year's topic, "Co-existing with Wal-Mart," focuses on how businesses can compete with today's outside influences. Described by PRVCA's supplier director John Roba, John Roba & Associates, as "a common sense approach to merchandising basics." Advanced registration for this event is preferred. The cost, $25 or $30 at the door, includes lunch and a copy of Taylor's book, "Up Against The Wal-Marts." That evening, the 1996 Supplier Showcase opens to attendees with a wine and cheese reception complete with classical and jazz music by guitarist, Kenny Allen. Beginning at 5 PM the "open house" in the supplier area will zero in on products and services offered to the industry. Tuesday, September 10 at 8 a.m., PRVCA will host its annual Red Carpet breakfast featuring keynote speaker, futurist and economist, Dr. Barry Asmus, who will speak on "The Global Economy Spells Opportunity." PRVCA's entertainment at the Annual Industry Party is political satirists, The Capitol Steps. This group of past to present Congressional staff people offer a unique view of politics. This year's show will ask attendees to "test the luck of the Irish" and aim to win an all inclusive vacation for two during PRVCA's Annual Trip Give-Away to Ireland. Each show exhibitor will receive entry blanks so the more exhibitors the attendee sees, the better his chances are to win. (Please note: the trip is non-transferable and you must be present to win. Winner will be announced Sept. 10th at 3 PM) PRVCA has worked hard to ensure a beneficial experience for attendees with a blend of what worked in the past and some new ideas such as this year's RV Dream Photo, a series of super enlargements depicting activities enhanced through the use of an RV. Donated by exhibitors, these 30 x 40-inch color photos will hang over main isles throughout the show, both trade and public days, illustrating the joys of RVing. PRVCA plans to retain these photos for use in 1997. Rebecca Lenington, PRVCA executive vice president, said, "The concept is simple. One picture is worth a thousand words! We are selling the versatility of the RV to meet every lifestyle and we want to convey the message that whatever you do, hunting, snow skiing, fishing, boating, sports events, tailgate parties.... it's always better in an RV!" Finally, PRVCA has planned an open-pit pig roast set outside in Octoberfest fashion. Plates will be sold by PRVCA for $10 to benefit their Political Action Committee (PAC).
