Product Spotlight![]() EZ Duct, a new air-conditioning system distributed by Patrick Industries, cuts production costs and reduces assembly time for manufacturers while providing built-in selling points for consumers. Patrick Industries, a leading manufacturer and distributor of building products for the RV industry, has engineered the EZ Duct air-conditioning system specifically for use in RVs. Working with MACtacr Technical Products, a division of the Bemis Company, Patrick has developed a duct system that reduces assembly time and costs while providing benefits to consumers as well. EZ Duct is made of corrugated polyethylene for added strength. It features a sonic weld that withstands a wide range of temperatures and provides a strong seal against air leakage. Because its ribbed design allows unrestricted air flow, EZ Duct uses less blower power to push air through the system. It is also lighter than the ducting currently used in RVs. This reduces the weight of an RV. Both the lower unit weight and the fact that the air conditioner does not have to work as hard to cool a unit translate into fuel efficiencies -- strong selling points for dealers to use when discussing the benefits of an RV with customers looking for the best value. EZ Duct is also recyclable, another selling point to end-users. Each component of EZ Duct has been designed for easy assembly with MACtac's pressure-sensitive tape. Since the tape is already attached to the ducting, EZ Duct can be installed by one worker and trimmed and fitted with a utility knife for quick placement into the air-conditioning plenum. A specially designed end cap completes the process. Assembly is simple; just peel back the tape and insert one end of the ducting into the elbow or additional duct work. Installa-tion time is reduced, providing an estimated cost savings to the RV manufacturer of 25 - 50 percent less than existing HVAC ducts. "We're very excited about this product," said Harold Wyland, vice president of sales and marketing for Patrick Industries. "Working together with MACtac we created a product that makes the RV assembly process faster and easier with the end product costing less. Everyone wins." Patrick operates 24 manufacturing facilities and 16 distribution centers nationwide, providing single source convenience for the recreational vehicle, manufactured housing, furniture, ma-rine, automotive, architectural and other industries.
