A more concise Vision Statement, a re-ordered Mission
Statement and some new goals to guide association activities during
the next two years were approved by the Board of Directors at
its March 8 meeting in Maui, Hawaii. The vote culminated months
of review and consideration by, and an intense two-day meeting of
the RVIA Strategic Planning Committee in February.
Committee Chairman Bruce Hertzke, of Winnebago Industries,
presented the refreshed plan during the March 9 Annual
Membership Meeting. "It became clear from the beginning that in
order to best serve its members, RVIA must deliver programs and
services that reach across the entire industry," said Hertzke.
"RVIA's Vision was thus simplified to capture this important concept."
Notable within the Mission Statement was a reordering of
goals, raising "Growing the RV Market" as the top priority and
enhancing the goal by adding, "at twice the rate of the overall
economy."
Also notable is a fifth goal resulting from the former "Enhance
RV Products and Experiences" goal that was divided into two
goals, "Enhance the RV Experience for Consumers" and "Foster
Continuous Improvement of RV Products."
"The Strategic Planning Committee is to be commended for
their work in this first revision process," said RVIA President Dave
Humphreys. "This living document has proven to be a valuable
tool since its establishment in 1991. As with the first, the revised
plan will constantly be referenced by the RVIA Board of Directors,
committees and staff for guidance to insure that their activities fall
in-line with the industry's long term goals and objectives."
The 2003 Strategic Planning Committee includes Chairman
Bruce Hertzke, Claire Skinner of Coachmen Industries, Dick Coon
of Onan Corporation, Ron Doyle of Western RV, Carl Pfalzgraf of
Atwood Mobile Products, Walt Bennett of Thor Industries, Wilbur
Bontrager of Jayco, Mel Adams of Airxcel and Norm Jacobson of
Lance Camper. RVIA President Dave Humphreys and the RVIA
Vice Presidents also participated in the revision process. RVIA
