RV-30 Solar Charge Controller

The RV-30 allows for automatic charging of both the house and engine batteries. This is important, as there is a constant drain on both batteries from various parasitic loads like alarm systems and electronic memories. Charging power from the solar panels is automatically allocated to both the house and engine batteries simultaneously, depending on their respective needs.

The RV-30 was developed by RV Solar Consultants in conjunction with Heliotrope General. RVSC distributes the RV-30 along with solar electric panels and design expertise to RV manufacturers and dealers. Heliotrope General has manufactured over 600,000 solar charge controllers since 1975.

Utilizing the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) charging strategy, the RV-30 maintains batteries at the highest state of charge with the least water consumption. In addition to the PWM charging strategy, the RV-30 utilizes battery temperature compensation and automatic equalization. These combined features assure the longest possible life of the batteries..

A digital readout incorporated into the faceplate, shows both the house and engine battery voltage and the amount of charging amperage coming form the solar panels. Three LED's show the status of the controller, whether the system is currently charging or has reached a fully charged state. The RV-30 is designed to be flush mounted into a cabinet or wall and will handle up to 30 amps of solar input.

Remco Introduces Locking Hub For Towing Front Wheel Drive Vehicles

Motorhome owners who want to tow their front wheel drive vehicles with automatic transmissions have a new option over expensive tow dollies. Remco has solved the problem with its Locking Hub, a product that makes virtually every front wheel drive vehicle with an automatic transmission towable.

According to Remco president Alan Cahoon, "The Locking Hub is user friendly and has a broad vehicle application. Easy installation is one of the major advantages of the Locking Hub, It's as easy as changing a tire. The product works without damaging the drive train and with no mileage accumulation on the towed vehicle's odometer." A special Remco program prevents the Locking Hub from ever becoming obsolete. Under terms of a unique exchange program, customers who purchase a different car may exchange their Locking Hubs for a model that fits their new vehicle.

Locking Hubs are sold in pairs, one each for the driver and passenger side and are designed to fit most front wheel drive vehicles. Four different models are available, two each for four-hole and five-hole stud patterns. The product can also be adapted for two stud patterns. One of the Hub's many advantages is that it does not affect the caster/camber of the front wheels, although it does increase the wheel tracking by approximately 2" on each side. The towed vehicle steers and tracks the same as it would without the Locking Hub.

With the Locking Hubs installed, preparing the vehicle for towing is a simple process. Hook the vehicle to the motorhome, plug in the taillight wire connector cable, unlock the steering wheel, place gear shift lever in "Park", turn the Hub's selector on each wheel to the UNLOCK position. To drive the vehicle, simply reverse the procedure.

On some vehicles, the center hole of the rim may have to be milled to 2-7/16" to fit the Locking Hub diameter, a very minor adjustment that be done by a dealer or service shop. In some cases, a new rim may be necessary.
